Legislation will fund education programs in rural Arizona

Last night U.S. Rep. Rick Renzi (AZ-1) voted to pass H.R. 3043, Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations Act conference report.

Passed by a vote of 274-141, this bill provides a total of $606.4 billion to fund the U.S. Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education.

In part, this legislation provides increases in funding for vital health research and educational grants to local education agencies. Specifically, this legislation directs federal funds to rural Arizona to improve various education programs. Under this legislation, Apache County Schools, Graham County Schools, and the Pinal County Education Service Agency will all receive funding for teacher training initiatives. Both Central Arizona College and Gila County Community College will receive funding for their nursing programs.

"I am pleased that the House was able to pass this important appropriations bill, which directs vital funding to numerous education programs in rural Arizona," said Congressman Renzi. "I will continue to stand in strong support of legislation that helps improve the quality of education for all Americans."

This bill has been approved by both the House of Representatives and the Senate and must be signed by the President in order to become law.
